IKOT EKPENE PEOPLE GO DIABOLIC OVER IKOT EKPENE -UYO ROAD DUALIZATION PROJECT
BY ADMIN.
The people of Ikot Ekpene on Monday went diabolic over what could be perceived as non-settlement and compensation by the state government over the demolition of properties in the course of construction of the Ikot Ekpene-Uyo dualization road project.
The road construction which was kicked off by the God'swill Akpabio's led administration met many roadblocks which has caused the delay of the project by Governor Udom.
It could be recalled the former governor (now Senate minority leader), God'swill Akpabio accused the present government of abandoning the Ikot Ekpene-Uyo road and threatened to withdraw his support for Governor Udom's second term bid.
The Akwa Ibom State Government through it's Commissioner for Works Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen in a live radio programme in Uyo earlier said;
''The contracting firm handling the project Julius Berger has been paid the project advances. The snag is that the money allocated for payment of compensation to property owners on that road has long been exhausted and many building are still standing on the way awaiting compensation. The money was exhausted before the coming of this administration.''
''If compensation was paid by Godswill Akpabio led adminstration and the structures are still standing and the property owners are still demanding compensation, it means something is wrong.''
However, the problem took a different dimension on Monday when the Ekpene people decided to go diabolic over the whole issue by blocking the road with palm frond and other fetish objects.

This is the Ikot Ekpene - Uyo dualization project which some persons said Governor Udom Emmanuel has abandoned. After paying hundreds of millions in compensation and restarting work on the project, some people have blocked the road with fetish objects demanding the project be stopped.
When will our people be progressive for once?
Works Commissioner Ephraim Inyang has ordered that the fetish materials be burnt after prayers. Development has to go on.''
