SPEAKER LUKE CONGRATULATES AKWA UNITED ON CAF CONFEDERATIONS' CUP VICTORY IN GAMBIA

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke on Thursday, showered encomiums on players and management of Akwa United Football Club.
Barr Luke hailed the 'Promise Keepers' for putting Akwa Ibom State on the African map again by qualifying to the next round of the CAF Confederations' Cup.
The Uyo based side defeated hosts; Banjul Hawks 2-0 on Wednesday evening at the Independence Stadium, Bakau, Gambia.
In his reaction, the Speaker, himself an ardent Akwa United fan, thanked the "Dakkada" spirit in the club, saying it was soothing that the 'Promise Keepers' have moved a step further in the league for the first time after over twenty two years of the club's existence.
He observed that, the massive victory was a sign of good things to come, urging the Abdu Maikaba side not to rest on its oars till it eventually win the continental soccer fiesta.
Informing that the Sixth Assembly will always support and give legislative backings to the Executive to develop Sports in the State, Luke specifically eulogized Governor Udom Emmanuel for championing the drive for sports revolution in the country.
According to the Speaker, through the efforts and support of Governor Udom Emmanuel, Akwa Ibom has become the emerging football capital of Nigeria playing host to the National Team; the Super Eagles all through the team’s successful qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
He also observed that the State owned football team; Akwa United has over the last two and a half years of the Udom Emmanuel led administration been the most funded and best managed state-owned team which has seen the team emerged the winners of Nigeria FA Cup twice in 2015 and 2017.
