BY HENSHAW NYONG, UYO.
In her continuous drive to remain at the forefront of engendering educational learning amongst school children, President, Legislators' Wives Association (LEWA) Akwa Ibom State chapter; Dr Mrs Uduak Onofiok Luke, joined in celebrating the “World Book Day 2018”, by reading with school girls
The event, which was held at the Boldoz Book Club in Uyo, had in attendance, academics and literary enthusiasts.
The World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly a celebration of reading designated by UNESCO and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
The idea behind the celebration is to explore the pleasures of reading by providing people, especially children, with the opportunities to have books of their own.
Describing the interaction as full of fun, the LEWA President, who is the wife of the Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly; Rt Hon (Barr) Onofiok Luke, said she learnt a lot from the children, adding that the day was a celebration of not just reading, but also books and authors.
She therefore, advised parents to look over their children and make sure they imbibe in them the reading culture, which would go a long way in making them the leaders of tomorrow.
Dr Luke used the occasion to eulogize the State Governor; Mr Udom Emmanuel, for sustaining the free and compulsory education, maintaining that, the gesture has rekindled the spark of greatness in Akwa Ibom child and residents of the State to soar to greatness.
The Speaker's wife, however, promised to make the event an annual celebration in order to make both the young and the old in Akwa Ibom state reclaim their lost reading instinct and habit.
