The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday announced dates for general elections in the country for the next 36 years , starting from 2019 to 2055 . Chairman of the commission, Prof . Mamood Yakubu , made the announcement at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja . “ In 2019 , the dates are February 16 and March 2 ; in 2023 , the dates are February 18 and March 4 . “ In 2027 , the dates are February 20 and March 6 ; in 2031 , it is February 15 and March 1 . “ In 2035 , it is February 17 and March 3 ; in 2039 , it is February 19 and March 5 and in 2043 , it will hold on February 21 and March 7 . “ In 2047 , it is February 15 and March 2 ; in 2051 , it is February 18 and March 1 ; in 2055 , it is February 20 and March 6 , ” Yakubu said. A divorce-seeking woman, Funke Adeyemi, on Wednesday told an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court, Agodi, Ibadan, that her husband, Wasiu Adeyemi, abandoned  from home because of N24,000 unpaid rent on their apartment. The 29-year-old woman said that her husband of 12 years ran away from their home when the landlord demanded for payment of the outstanding rent, leaving her and their three children.  She stated that the defendant had refused to pay the debt and had not been seen since June, 2017. '' The landlord has ejected me from the house and I have been living with my parents since then.  ”All efforts to contact him proved abortive and I have been shouldering the responsibility of the three kids alone.  ”I pray the court to dissolve our union and order him to be responsible to his paternal roles,” she pleaded. Two suspected armed robbers who were arrested by the Niger State Police Command alleged they went into robbery because of recession in the country and lack of government jobs. The suspects  identified as Shehu Bida and Bello Mallam  were arrested in Talba Estate, Bida town in the Bida Local Government Area of the state. According to Northern City News, Bida, 20 and Mallam, 18, were trailed and apprehended by the police after robbing one Mohammed Mohammed of the sum of N7,400 and two handsets valued at N9,000. A suspected killer husband who has been on the run since December has been arrested by the Lagos State Police. The suspect, Akinyemi Edgar Koja, who is a bricklayer was alleged to have strangled his wife Ajoke to death in their apartment in Agemowo area of Badagry, last December. According to report from Vanguard, Koja was picked in an undisclosed area around Lagos Island , where he took refuge since the incident occurred.  However, during interrogation, the suspect stated that he carried out the act out of jealously , following what he described as his late wife’s adulterous acts.  Recall that after allegedly killing his 28-year-old wife who was a graduate, he dumped her corpse inside a well within his area , before taking to his heels. The Rivers State Police command has arrested the Senior Pastor of Alter of Grace Ministries, Chidiebere Okoroafor, for allegedly killing three people, including two pregnant women and an infant near Izuom market, Oyigbo. Preliminary investigation revealed that Pastor Okoroafor had impregnated Olumma Onwaagba, who until her death was a member of the church choir. It was gathered that Okoroafor allegedly pressured Olumma to terminate the pregnancy but she refused. Her refusal led to her death and that of those who knew about the scandal. The immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has questioned the power of the National Assembly to alter the sequence of the 2019 elections. Jega made his position known at an event organised by the Youth Initiative for Advocacy Growth and Development in Abuja on Thursday. Speaking at the event with the theme, ‘Is Nigeria’s Democracy Under Threat?’ Jega said the National Assembly’s action undermined the independence of INEC. He added that several sections of the 1999 Constitution clearly state that the power to organise and set the date for elections remain the exclusive preserve of INEC. A 35 year old man identified as Daniel Bidem has been sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for allegedly stealing girlfriend's cell phone valued at N47,000 in Abuja. The accused, Bidem who was arraigned  on one count of stealing  before the Karmo Grade 1 Area Court,  of Garki II, Abuja, on Thursday  was sentenced after he pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for leniency. Mibiola Olajumoke, girlfriend of the accused who reside at No 13, Matadi Street, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja, reported the matter at Utako Police Station on February 19. She said Bidem had taken her to a hotel at Wuse II on 16th February at about 2:30 pm to buy her food but dishonestly scat away with her phone and sold it. The newly constructed ultra modern Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp in Shendam Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau has been razed by fire.  The camp was constructed by the Presidential Committee on Flood, Relief and Rehabilitation, which came into being after the 2012 flood disaster that ravaged 24 states in the country.  Mr Bintan Wuyep, Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Plateau Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) confirmed the inferno while speaking with the Newsmen in Jos on Thursday.  Wuyep, who is the Acting Executive Secretary of the agency, said the disaster occurred on Tuesday. The newly inaugurated Ikeja Special Offences and Sexual Court, Lagos State yesterday sentenced a 58-year-old man, Obinna Izegben, to 60 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a six-year-old primary school pupil. The Kubwa area of Abuja were on Wednesday thrown into mourning as three pupils of the  Local Education Authority Primary School, Kubwa 2 , passed on after allegedly eating biscuits given to them by a fellow pupil at the school party.
